Women's Squash Downs Colby, Falls to Bowdoin

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Playing their first matches of 2013, the Drexel women's squash team got a 6-3 victory over Colby this weekend before falling to Bowdoin by an identical score. The Dragons' win over Colby was their second of the regular season, the first time a Drexel women's squash team has won multiple matches in a regular season. It also snapped a six-match losing streak.
Damindhi Udangawa handled things at the top of Drexel's ladder, winning in four sets at No. 1, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-8. Katherine Barnes, meanwhile, swept to a 3-0 victory at No. 3, taking an 11-6, 11-7, 11-4 decision. Laura Rahauser won her first set at No. 5 11-5, then pulled out a tight 12-10 victory before putting the match away in the third, 11-8. Disha Thahryamal was victorious at No. 6, winning three straight 11-8 sets.
The most dominant performance of the day came at No. 7, where Atiqah Shahrin did not cede so much as a single point in her 11-0, 11-0, 11-0 victory. The win was the first such shutout in the history of Drexel varsity women's squash. Davila Thompson rounded up the win over Colby with a five-set grinder, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-7 at the No. 9 position.
Udangawa, Thompson and Kiran Vasudevan scored individual victories in Drexel's subsequent match with Bowdoin, but that was all the Dragons could muster as they fell, 6-3. All three Drexel points came in four sets.
