Varsity Eights Sweep Events Against Bucknell and Lehigh

LEWISBURG, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon, Drexel Crew won all five head races against the Bucknell Bison and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks hosted on the Susquehanna River.
On the men's side, the top varsity eight earned the top-time of 19:12. The Joseph Greipp featured coxswain Victoria Kenion, stroke Sebastian Ryan, Ivo Krakic, Mikulas Sum, Vanja Busic, Ian Luetzow, Nicholas Capaldi, Daniel Palombo and bow Michael DiLucca. Bucknell came in second-place with a time of 19:32 followed by Lehigh at 21:29.
Marc Smith coxed the men's second varsity eight in the Annette Pennoni shell to a top-place finish along with stroke Ryan McSpedon, John Pieper, Marko Durica, Cameron Staines, James Byrne, Dave Hanrahan, Matt Gehret and cox Casimir Czworkowski. The Dragons had the fastest time of the day finishing in 19:07.
The men's third varsity eight secured second place in the same race with a time of 19:17. The Vince Vidas boat featured coxswain Christopher Henderson, stroke Dean Hill, Xavier Stanish, Christian Ladd, Ryan Mallgrave, Mahmoud Shurbaji, Leif Malm, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Brian McCabe.
Coxswain Kerry Walsh guided the top women's varsity eight, in the Maria Papadakis shell, to a first place finish along with stroke Olivia Babiec, Elizabeth Daugherty, Marina Forster, Samantha Cowan, Kayla Wroblesky, Amanda Kleuser and bow Elise Levito. The Dragons clocked in at 20:46 followed by Bucknell at 21:36 and Lehigh at 22:39.
Catherine Hamilton coxed the Marlene Buckley boat across the finish line first in the women's second varsity eight race with teammates Tori King, Colleen Delaney, Emily Gartland, Kendall Wenzke, Barbara McKenna, Alyssa Leahy, Stephanie Thomas and bow Julie McGlynn. Drexel crossed the finish line at 21:16 before the Mountain Hawks at 21:26. The Bison recorded a third-place time of 22:58.
The women's third varsity eight also stopped the clock at 21:16 for first-place. The winning John Daskalakis boat consisted of coxswain Sarah Messenger, stroke Amanda O'Malley, Sierra Baca, Taylor Brady, Lauren Sand, Gabby Salcedo, Christina Alleva, Crystal Xu and bow Julia Iannucci.
