Wrestling Falls to Grand View and Iowa State in Season Opener

Ames, Iowa – The Drexel wrestling team went 0-2 in their first duals of the season against Grand View and Iowa State on Thursday.
The Dragons led Grand View through seven matches. Redshirt freshman Kevin Devoy Jr picked up a tech fall to get Drexel on the board first. David Pearce followed with a win-by-fall over Grand View's Crinzi to put the Dragons up 11-0 after two matches. Matthew Cimato came up short at 141 and the 149 match was forfeited to Grand View, but Austin Sommer followed with a win-by-fall at 6:52 to put Drexel up 17-9.
Grand View's turn around started with the 165 match and continued through the 184, where the Vikings took a 19-17 lead as freshman Alex DeCiantis lost a decision to Grand View's Mays. Brandon Palik took back the Dragons lead at 20-19 with a 7-0 decision at 197, but the Vikings took the victory with a 7-2 decision against Jamie Callender at 285.
In the second match-up of the day, the Dragons once again took the first two matches with wins from Devoy and Pearce. Cimato won a 12-9 decision at 141 to put Drexel up 10-0. The Dragons once again forfeited the 149 match to Iowa State, which made the score 10-6. Drexel then dropped five matches in a row to give the Cyclones a 24-10 lead. Jamie Callender finished out the day strong with a win-by-fall over Iowa State's Smith at 5:29, but Iowa State took the dual with a final score of 24-16.
The Dragons will continue their road trip as they travel to Brookings, South Dakota to face South Dakota State on Saturday with matches starting at 11:00 a.m.
