Crew Wins Five of Six Events on Saturday

Philadelphia – The Drexel men's and women's crew team raced against Bucknell and Mercy Hurst on Saturday, April 6 on the home waters of the Schuylkill River before competing in the Occoquan Sprints held in Fairfax, Virginia on Sunday morning. The Dragons won five of six events on the day.
The men's freshmen eight event with a first-place time of 6:05.9. Bucknell came in second at 6:19.3, while Mercy Hurst finished third crossing the finish line at 6:53.3. The Peggy Greenawalt boat included coxswain Christopher Henderson, stroke Daniel Dollin, Mikulas Sum, Nicholas Capaldi, Michael DiLucca, Dave Hanrahan, Daniel Palombo, Daniel Pyle and bow Lawrence Lindawan.
Drexel took both top finishes in the second varsity eight event. The second varsity eight stopped the clock at 6:05.9 followed by the Dragons' third varsity eight at 6:11.0. Victoria Kenion guided the winning Joseph Greipp boat with stroke Marc Durica, Milos Rujevic, James Byrne, Paul Wisniowski, Ian Luetzow, Christian Ladd, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Brian McCabe. The second-place Vince Vidas boat featured coxswain Diana Fox, stroke Mahmoud Shurbaji, Dean Hill, Ryan McSpedon, Matt Gehret, Timothy Drake, Cameron Staines, Adam Cordi and bow Jake Murphy. Bucknell took third at 6:19.5, while Mercy Hurst finished in 6:37.5 for fourth place.
The men's varsity eight won the Dragons' final race and posted the best time of the day with a 5:53.6. Mercy Hurst followed at 6:09.9. The Lois Krall boat consisted of coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Kurt Linton, Ryan Mallgrave, Michael Faust and bow Casimir Czworkowski.
For the women's team, the varsity eight came in second to Bucknell on Saturday. The Bison clicked in a top-time of 6:44.74 followed by the Dragons at 6:51.38. The Marlene Buckley II boat featured coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Elizabeth Campanella, Colleen Delaney, Kayla Wroblesky, Sierra Baca, Julia Jackson, Mollie Cusack, Olivia Babiec and bow Bridget Pfeifer.
The Dragons were the top-two finishers in the second varsity eight event. The second varsity eight stopped the clock at 6:47.5 followed by the Dragons' freshmen eight shell at 6:59.0. Coxswain Catherine Hamilton guided the winning Maria Papadakis boat along with stroke Amanda Kleuser, Emily Gartland, Jayme Batcher, Elizabeth Daugherty, Tori King, Alyssa Leahy, Amanda Dargay and bow Elise Levito. The second-place Marlene Buckley boat consisted of coxswain Rachel Bowen, stroke Rose Erlich, Julie McGlynn, Caitlin Bubel, Rebecca McCool, Jordan Marinchak, Elisabeth Wagner, Taylor Brady and bow Kate Wilchek. Bucknell posted third place with a time of 7:04.5.
The women's varsity four 'A' boat stopped the clock first at 7:51.1. Bucknell's top boat came in second with a time of 7:57.4. The winning Sandra Lee Sheller boat included coxswain Sarah Messenger, stroke Amanda O'Malley, Elise Panacek, Kathie Cheng and bow Barbara McKenna. The women's varsity four 'B' boat came in fourth overall with a time of 8:16.4. The Dawn Byers consisted of coxswain Ariana Kaufmann, stroke Alicia Hoy, Brogan Piecara, Olivia Carignan and bow Ashley Lidwell.
