8/30/2013 10:21:00 PM | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's soccer team tied Villanova, 1-1, on Friday night at Vidas Field after two overtimes. The tie moves both the Dragons and the Wildcats to 1-1-1 overall this season.
Villanova got on the board early as the Wildcats' Katie Martin scored off the rebound of a shot taken by Renee Hart. Hart's attempt hit the crossbar but was quickly controlled and put back by Martin to give Villanova the lead in the 13th minute. The Dragons were unable to answer and went into halftime scoreless.
Freshman Shyanne Kimbrough, who was making her first appearance as a Dragon scored her first career goal in the 60th minute to tie things up at 1-1. Kimbrough grabbed the rebound of Megan Hammaker's shot and put it back into the upper left corner from 25 yards out.
Despite eight shots between both teams in the two overtimes, neither was able to secure the win. The Wildcats outshot the Dragons 13-8 over the course of the game. Eve Badana had five saves to Villanova goalie Jami Kranich's one.
The tie continues the Dragons' unbeaten streak at Vidas field that has spanned more than two seasons. Drexel is 12-0-5 at home since the 2011 season, with their last home loss coming against Delaware on October 30, 2010.
Drexel hits the road to face UMBC on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
