ITHACA, N.Y. - The No. 18 Drexel field hockey team posted its fifth-straight victory at Cornell, 2-1, in double overtime. With over 72 minutes of even play, senior co-captain Elise DiDonato recorded the game-winning goal from junior Meghan Planks' pass to hold off the Big Red. Cornell held a slim advantage in shots, 17-14, and drew 11 penalty corners to Drexel's six. The Dragons are now 7-2 overall.

In the opening 1:45 of Sunday's contest, Drexel set up its first attacking penalty corner option. Junior Meghan Plank pushed the ball to sophomore Lauren Hibshman, who stopped the ball as freshman Jessica McCarthy winded up for a shot. McCarthy hit the direct shot past opposing goalkeeper Elizabeth Schaeffler giving the Dragons a 1-0 advantage.

With just under 21 minutes showing on the scoreboard, Cornell's Ann DiPastina gained speed off of a restart and carried the ball straight to goal. She tallied an unassisted goal tying the game at one, 1-1. Drexel and Cornell continued to create scoring opportunities, however, neither team was able to break through the defensive units until the second extended period.

The Dragons' set up around the circle for their sixth penalty corner of the day. At 86:40, DiDonato took the direct hit scoring the game-winning point.

Junior goalkeeper Jantien Gunter made eight key stops to keep Cornell off of the scoreboard. Gunter has had eight stops in three of the last four contests. She now has 59 saves on the season.

The Dragons will host two contests next weekend starting with Dartmouth on Friday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. followed by Rutgers on October 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Buckley Field. Sunday marks Drexel's Play4theCure game and High School Day.
