Women's Soccer Falls to Towson in Conference Opener, 3-0

Towson, Md. – The Drexel women's soccer team fell to Towson, 3-0, in their conference opener on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons are now 4-6-1, 0-1 while the Tigers improve to 6-5-1, 1-1 on the season.

Towson opened scoring early with a goal 30 seconds into the first half. The Tigers' Emily Banes sent a cross in from the left to Katlyn Axenfeld at the top of the box, who put it over keeper Eve Badana into the high right part of the net. The Tigers added another goal in their fourth minute from Katie Ponce off another cross from Towson's Bane. Towson would hold the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Despite multiple attempts by the Dragons, who outshot the Tigers 6-3 in the first half, Drexel was unable to get on the board.

Towson struck again in the 54th minute as Ponce scored her second goal of the game. Ponce took a give-and-go from Sofia Read and put it into the net past a diving Badana. The Tigers held off the Drexel offense and maintained a 3-0 lead until the game went final.

Drexel took a total of 13 shots to Towson's five in the losing effort. Badana tallied one save, while Towson goalie Erin Quinn totaled six and the Tigers as a team recorded two.

The Dragons will return home to face William & Mary on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
