PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's soccer team shut out Longwood, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Dragons improve to 3-2-1, while the Lancers are now 0-3-2 overall.
Drexel got on the board early when freshman Shyanne Kimbrough was awarded a penalty shot in the 10th minute. Kimbrough sank the shot into the lower right corner to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead which they would hold for the remainder of the game. This marks the rookie's fourth goal so far on the season.
After only getting one shot off before halftime, the Lancers came out recharged in the second half taking six shots in an attempt to tie the game. Their closest attempt came with 39 seconds remaining on the game clock, as Longwood's Taylor Cave put up a dead-on shot. Junior keeper Eve Badana made a crucial save to maintain the Dragons' lead as the time clock expired.
The save was one of three in the game for Badana. Longwood's goalie Shelby Hall tallied five saves as Drexel outshot Longwood 12-7.
The Dragons return to action on Friday as they travel down 33rd street to take on the Penn Quakers at 5:00 p.m.
