NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Drexel men's and women's squash teams had a big day in Connecticut on Saturday, with both the men and the women winning two matches each. Both teams defeated Wesleyan and Colby to move to 3-0 on the weekend trip to New England.
The day began at Wesleyan, where Drexel won two matches against the hosts. The women grabbed the first of two 8-1 victories on the day, while the men won a 5-4 thriller for the second day in a row.
On the women's side, the Dragons won at the top two positions on the ladder, as Damindhi Udangawa and Mary Fung-A-Fat each got straight set victories to lead the way. A loss at No. 3 was the only blemish on an otherwise perfect effort on the part of the Dragons, who would make it six victories in their last seven matches before the day was out.
The men had to fight for their win at Wesleyan, as they wound up with a 5-4 victory courtesy of a five-set Justin Singh nailbiter at No. 1. The senior won the first set, but lost the next two as the Dragons needed his point to secure the win. He rallied back to take the final two sets of the day, winning the Dragons' fifth point of the match to clinch the victory.
The women got things off to a good start at the Dragons' second Connecticut stop of the day, this one against Colby at Yale University. Drexel won another 8-1 decision, capturing matches at the top six positions on the ladder.
Finally, the men's team rebounded from losing two of the first five matches on the courts against Colby to roar back for a 7-2 victory. The Dragons won at each of the top seven spots on the ladder, with Sebastian Dangond's straight-sets victory standing out.
