BALTIMORE – The Dragons showed little effects of swimming less than 24 hours ago and posted 20 wins at the Loyola (Md.) quad-meet on Saturday afternoon. Drexel competed against the host Greyhounds, Seton Hall and Lafayette.
The men beat Loyola (Md.) by the score of 201 to 99, Lafayette 223 to 75 and Seton Hall 166.5 to 133.5. The women beat Lafayette, 182.5 to 109.5, and Loyola (Md.), 157.5 to 141.5, but lost to Seton Hall, 153.0 to 146.
"I'm very pleased with how the team rebounded from Fridays defeat and performed today. They met the challenge of swimming on the road on back-to-back days head on and were great today," head coach Adam Braun said. "I'm especially proud of the women because they had to overcome a huge early set back when our winning 200 medley relay was disqualified for an early take off. To battle back from that and win two of the three meets and come up just short against Seton Hall shows a lot of heart."
The Dragons got a win in the men's 200-yard medley relay from the team of Joel Berryman, Chad Schmidt, Kyle Lukens and Mike Shaeffer with a time of 1:33.50.
Schmidt later took home the win in the 200-yard breaststroke. Andrew Reimon was third for the Dragons.
For the women Miranda Rouse and Emily Joyce went 1-2 in the 1,000-yard freestyle with Rouse getting the win by 2.8 seconds with a 10:34.58. The win is the freshman's second of her career. The men tied the feat with a 1-2 finish in the 500-yard freestyle with Ted Taylor and Ivo Pejovic. The win is Taylor's second in as many days. Taylor then made it three wins on the season with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle.
Rouse also won the 500-yard freestyle by nearly five seconds for her second win in a freestyle event of the day.
Aubrey Murray got the win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.70. The sophomore's time was .48 seconds faster than her winning time from a day ago. Berryman took home an individual win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.82. Berryman added another individual win in the 50-yard freestyle.
Rachel Bernhardt made it two straight in the 100-yard breaststroke. Murray made it two wins on the day in the 100-yard freestyle. Bernhardt won the 200-yard backstroke for her second win of the day.
Lukens won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:53.31. Taylor joined him on the podium after his third place finish. Lukens added to his win total with a win in the 100-yard freestyle. Chialastri made it a 1-2 finish for the Dragons.
Gillian Gress gave the Dragons another win with her triumph in the 200-yard backstroke. The freshman swam nearly two seconds faster than she did a day ago in the same event en route to a win.
The Dragons won both the men's and women's 400-yard freestyle relay. The women won by just under four seconds and the men by just under three seconds.
On the diving board the Dragons got wins from Madison Kramer in the women's 3-meter and David Sanchez in the men's one-meter. Kramer and Sanchez both finished second in the one and three-meter dives respectively.
The Dragons return to the pool on Nov. 1 when they travel to the nation's capital to face George Washington at 1 p.m.
