Boston, Mass. - The Drexel women's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 1-0 loss to Northeastern on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons finish in fifth place in the Colonial Athletic Association with 14 points.
The Dragons were able to hold the Huskies scoreless through the first half and went into halftime tied at 0-0. Northeastern scored what would wind up being the game-winning goal in the 61st minute as the Huskies' Shayna Blackwood found the net off a cross from Kayla Cappuzzo.
Lauren Stollar was able to get off two shots throughout the remainder of the second half, but they both went wide. With under two minutes to go in regulation, Melissa Chapman sent a header shot towards the goal, but it also went wide. As time expired, the Dragons were unable to overcome Northeastern's deficit.
Junior keeper Kelsie Fye recorded three saves in the losing effort. The loss moves the Dragons to 4-3-2 in conference action and they finish out the regular season with a record of 7-8-3. Northeastern secured the regular-season champion title with the victory and finished out the year 12-4-3 and 7-1-1 in CAA.
The Dragons will travel to the fourth-seeded William & Mary for the CAA Quarterfinals next Sunday. For full CAA women's soccer standings and seeding information, visit the Colonial Athletic Association webpage.
