Squash Falls at No. 7/17 Franklin and Marshall to Open 2014-15

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Drexel men's and women's squash teams dropped their season opening contests at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night.
The men's team (0-1) fell 5-4 to the No. 7 Diplomats (3-0). The Dragons are the first team to not get swept 9-0 by the Diplomats this season.
Drexel was able to win four of the first five matches of the night with Atticus Kelly, Ibrahim Bakir, Michael Thompson and Cillian Dunne getting the wins. Thompson came back from two games down to win in five (5-11, 5-11, 11-2, 11-8, 11-4) and Dunne and Bakir also won in five. The wins were the first for Kelly and Dunne as Dragons.
Franklin & Marshall did not drop a game in matches six through nine to complete the comeback from a 4-1 hole. The Dragon men have never beaten their counterparts from Franklin & Marshall.
The women's team (0-1) dropped their season opening match to the No. 17 Franklin and Marshall Diplomats 7-2. The Dragon women fall to 0-3 all-time versus the Diplomats.
Kaitlyn Money and Abigail Kaplan got the two wins for the Dragons. Money defeated Adreina Benedith in the fifth spot 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-6). The junior was able to wear down her opponent with her consistency. Kaplan won out of the sixth spot with a 3-1 win (6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 15-13) over Kate O'Brien in her first colligate match.
Mary Fung-A-Fat battled Fiona Murphy in the number one slot before falling in five games 3-2 (5-11, 11-5, 11-8, 10-12, 5-11). The sophomore was 1-1 in the top slot a season ago. The Diplomats took 3-0 wins in the other six matches to get the win.
The men and the women return home on Saturday at the Kline & Specter Squash Center when Columbia comes to Philadelphia. The women start at 12 p.m. and the men follow at 2 p.m.
