NEWARK, Del. – An overtime goal from Chloe Pachuilo just 21 seconds into the extra frame got the Drexel Dragons (10-8, 2-4 CAA) a road win to wrap-up the 2014 campaign. The Delaware Blue Hens (11-8, 4-2) held a 14-6 shot and 10-1 penalty corner advantage on the afternoon.
Pachuilo put home a shot from eight yards out that beat Emmeline Oltmans low to the left side for her fourth of the season and second game winner. Christina Conrad had the assist for her second helper of the season.
The first half saw the Blue Hens out shoot the Dragons 9-3 and have seven penalty corners. The Blue Hens had four shots within the first eight minutes. Rebecca Werner made a key defensive save on a shot from Esmee Peet in the 25th minute. The defense of Drexel held firm for the rest of the half and kept Delaware at bay to keep the game scoreless.
It was more of the same in the second half with the Dragons defense once again keeping the Blue Hens off the scoreboard despite them having the majority of chances. Allyson Fuller made a defensive save at the 38:14 mark to keep the game scoreless. The senior did the same in the 55th minute on a Peet shot. Mary Lynam had a chance to win the game with a shot off a penalty corner after time had expired that was wide left.
Jantien Gunter kept the Dragons in the game by making seven saves on the afternoon and imporved to 10-8 on the season with her fifth shutout. The senior finishes her career with a third straight season of 10-plus wins and at least five shutouts.
The win makes it eight seasons in a row in which the Dragons have finished with a winning record.
