Women's Soccer Earns 2-0 Victory Over George Washington

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Drexel women's soccer team defeated George Washington, 2-0 on Friday evening at Vidas Field. Melissa Chapman and Megan Hammaker scored a goal apiece for the Dragons in the victory.
Drexel's first goal came courtesy of Hammaker in the 27th minute after George Washington committed a foul in the box. Hammaker took the penalty kick, which was saved by GW keeper Miranda Horn. The rebound, however, bounced right back to Hammaker who then sank the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.
The Dragons maintained their 1-0 lead into halftime. Drexel keeper Kelsie Fye made multiple crucial saves throughout the second half that held the Colonials scoreless. The Dragons added to their lead in the 83rd minute as Chapman found the net for her first goal of the season. Hammaker sent a corner kick into the box to Madison Dunn, who quickly headed the ball to Chapman who then sent it into the left side of the goal. The Colonials would not be able to overcome the deficit in the remaining seven minutes.
With the win, the Dragons improve to 2-5-1, while the Colonials move to 5-2 on the season. Overall, Drexel outshot George Washington, 13-11. Fye tallied seven saves, while GW's Horn recorded five.
The Dragons return to action on Sunday when they will host Wagner at Vidas Field at 1:00 p.m.
