Men's Soccer Breaks Out for 3-0 Win at FDU
9/27/2014 8:08:00 PM | Men's Soccer
TEANECK, N.J. - The outburst was coming for the Drexel men's soccer team. It was just a matter of when. That was answered on Saturday evening as the Dragons visited Fairleigh Dickinson and scored a season-best three goals in a 3-0 defeat of the Knights. The win, their first since September 3, improved the Dragons to 3-4-2 with one game remaining in non-conference play.
Just over ten minute into the game, Drexel got the scoring started when newcomer Tristan Thompson notched his first goal as a Dragon. He finished a play set up by his brother, Aaron Thompson, and teammate John Grosh to get Drexel out to a 1-0 lead.
With the Dragons leading 1-0, Drexel tacked on another goal just before halftime. Felipe Fagundes chipped the ball in to Jameson Detweiler, who finished to make it 2-0 in the 45th minute. For Detweiler, it the first regular season goal of his career following a game-winner in the CAA championship game last November.
The Dragons would get another player scoring his first goal in the 70th minute. This time, it was Joseph Rodriguez netting his first collegiate goal to give Drexel an insurmountable 3-0 lead.
Tyler Afflerbach would need four saves to record his fourth shutout of the season and tenth of his career.
Drexel has one non-conference game remaining, a battle with Seton Hall at Vidas Field on Tuesday. That game will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
