Men's Soccer Falls to Monmouth, 1-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Drexel men's soccer team began CAA play with a 1-0 road loss to the Monmouth Hawks on Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel began the game aggressively, with a corner leading to two shots in the first five minutes. The Hawks responded with a corner kick that was broken up by the Dragons. A Monmouth yellow card at 8:31 gave Drexel opportunities, but DU was unable to find the back of the net, with a 14th-minute shot by Morgan Worsfold-Gregg going wide left. The Dragons continued to put pressure on but were unable to capitalize on their chances, with a shot from Tiago Lima-Bittencourt going wide. Monmouth responded with a pair of shots, the latter of which split the defenders and broke the tie for the Hawks at 37:21. Drexel fought back, generating opportunities and set pieces before the end of the first half but ultimately trailed 1-0 after 45 minutes.
Drexel had four corners in the first half compared to Monmouth's two. The two teams were tied in the opening frame with five shots each.
The second half started with a 46th-minute shot by Worsfold-Gregg and a pair of corners for the Dragons but Monmouth's defense held. Monmouth responded shot that was saved by Raphael Bartell at 52:28. Drexel kept up the pressure, taking shots in the 56th and 60th minutes but were unable to get the ball in the net. The two teams went back and forth before a pair of Monmouth shots in the 73rd and 74th minutes. Drexel fought back, with a shot from Leon Park that was saved at 76:46. The teams continued to battle, with Drexel creating opportunities in the final five minutes of play but ultimately unable to score as Monmouth came out on top with a 1-0 win.
