Men's Soccer Drops Close Match to Northeastern, 2-1

BOSTON – The Drexel men's soccer team fell to the Northeastern Huskies, 2-1, Saturday evening in Boston.
The first half was a defensive battle, with neither team generating many opportunities. An early Northeastern shot gave Raphael Bartell his first save of the game in the third minute. A Huskie corner led to another save for Bartell at the 11:06 mark. The Dragons responded with a shot from Daniel Celso in the 20th minute that went over the top of the net. The teams continued to go back and forth until a Northeastern goal in the 40th minute gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Drexel responded with shots coming from Gianluca Grubic and Daniel Frye but ultimately were unable to find the back of the net.
In the 53rd minute when Victor Moerck found Sharif Mohammed to tie things up. The goal was Mohammed's first goal as a Dragon. Northeastern retook the lead off corner kick led to a goal at 63:26. Moerck responded with a shot in the 67th minute that was saved. The teams battled in the middle of the field until a foul outside the box led to a shot from Leon Park at 73:09 that went high. The Dragons kept up the pressure, with a 79th-minute corner but ultimately were unable to tie things up, falling 2-1.
The Dragons will return to the pitch on Saturday, October 10, to face Hofstra. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
