Late Goal From Frye Leads to Draw With Hofstra

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team tied a physical match to the Hofstra Pride, 1-1, on Saturday at Vidas Field.
Drexel created opportunities early, with Gustavo Santana drawing a foul 22 seconds into the game and a shot from Ben Weller in the third minute that went wide. The teams battled on both sides of the field but neither side was able to pull away. A pair of 12th minute shots from Hofstra were off target. In the 20th minute a shot from Victor Moerck was blocked. Raphael Bartell recorded the first save of the game from either team in the 21st minute. The two teams continued to go back and forth, with neither generating many opportunities. Hofstra kicked a pair of corner kicks in the 30th minute that were broken up. A 43rd minute shot from Leon Park went high as the first half ended scoreless.
Both teams received early yellow cards to start the second half. A Hofstra penalty kick in the 50th minute gave the Pride a 1-0 lead. The Dragons responded with a shot from Will Starker in the 52nd minute that went wide. Drexel continued to generate opportunities, with a 57th minute corner kick leading to shots from Tiago Lima Bittencourt and Starker. In the 71st minute a Hofstra shot went high. A Pride shot in the 72nd minute was saved by Bartell. In the 80th minute the Dragons generated a number of opportunities, with five corner kicks and a shot from Morgan Worsfold-Gregg that went high and a shot from Santana going wide. The team's persistence paid off when Worsfold-Gregg connected with Daniel Frye who headed the ball into the net to tie things up in the 85th minute. The teams battled until the end but ultimately the match ended in a draw.
