NEWARK – The Drexel men's soccer team fell to the NJIT Highlanders 3-2 on Tuesday night in New Jersey.

The game started slowly. After a save by Raphael Bartell in the 10^th minute of play, the two teams battled for possession in the middle of the field. At 20:48, a shot from Brian Salvino was saved. The Highlanders responded with a pair of shots in the 22^nd and 25^th minutes, Bartell saved the first, and the second went high. A 25:12 shot from Salvino went wide to the left. NJIT took another two shots in the 27^th and 28^th minutes, with the first one again being saved by Bartell and the second going off a Dragon to create the first corner kick of the evening. The Highlanders took the lead at 30:28 off a penalty kick. The two teams continued to battle for possession before a 43^rd minute goal from NJIT made the score 2-0. Gianluca Grubic and Tiago Lima-Bittencourt responded with shots of their own, but ultimately Drexel trailed at the half.

Both teams began the second half aggressively on offense. A shot from Grubic in the 47^th minute went wide. NJIT generated opportunities, taking three shots and a corner kick, but were unable to capitalize on those opportunities. The Dragons responded with a shot from Lima-Bittencourt that went wide to the right. A pair of Highlander corners led to a goal at 62:26, giving NJIT a 3-0 lead. Drexel responded, creating opportunities from 63:48 through 68:03 with four corner kicks and a pair of shots by Lima-Bittencourt that were saved. The persistence paid off at 68:20 when a shot from Grubic found the back of the net, his first of the season. At 75:32, NJIT took a shot that was saved by Bartell. The Dragons responded with shots of their own from Lima-Bittencourt and Mo Diallo in the 80^th minute before drawing a foul to set up a penalty kick goal from Morgan Worsfold-Gregg, cutting the Highlander's lead to one. Drexel continued to generate opportunities, with shots coming from Lima-Bittencourt, Salvino and Diallo, but ultimately NJIT held on to win.
