Newark, Del. — Tyshawn Myles came off the bench to record a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds as Drexel defeated Delaware on the road, 66-62. Damion Lee also had a double-double as the Dragons improved to 2-4 in CAA play.
Drexel (4-13) led from wire to wire, although the game got close in the closing minutes. The Dragons led by nine with 5:26 to go after Sammy Mojica made a pair of free throws. Delaware (3-14, 2-4 CAA) started chipping away and with 1:13 got the lead down to three points when Chivarksy Corbett nailed a three-pointer. Drexel increased the lead to four after Rashann London made one of two free throws with :36 to play. Seven seconds later, Delaware freshman Kory Holden drove the lane and made it 66-64. Delaware called time and after Drexel got the ball inbounds, Freddie Wilson was fouled. The senior, who checked in for the first time in the second half just seconds earlier, made one of two to put DU up by three. The Hens raced down court, but Holden missed a lay-up with :13 to go. Mohamed Bah grabbed the board and made the first of two free throws as Drexel held on for the win.
Drexel scored the first five points in the game, all by Tavon Allen, and led by as 12 in the first half. The Dragons were 15-for-30 from the floor in the half and sank three of their seven long-range attempts. The defense played well again as Delaware made just seven buckets in the first half. Lee had nine points, eight rebounds and four assists in the opening 20 minutes.
Lee, who entered the game leading the CAA in scoring, finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The junior was 10-for-10 from the line and all 11 rebounds came on the defensive end. Myles was 5-for-8 from the floor and established career-highs in both scoring and rebounding. The freshmen did not have a point in his previous five CAA games. Allen finished with an efficient 15 points. The junior was 5-for-10 shooting and had a pair of three-pointers. Mojica had one of his better games as well, contributing nine points off the bench and making those free throws late in the second half.
Drexel's defense held Kyle Anderson, Delaware's leading scorer, to just eight points. The senior missed all six of his long-range attempts. Corbett led UD with 15 points, while Cazmon Hayes added 10. Delaware shot 41 percent in the game. The difference in the game came at the foul line. Drexel was 17-for-21 (.810), while the hosts missed nine of their 25 attempts.
The Dragons finish their two-game road swing on Wednesday night, when they visit Hofstra. Game time in Hempstead, N.Y. will be at 7 p.m.
