Squash Swept by No. 7/6 Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Drexel men's and women's squash teams both fell to Cornell on Saturday, 7-2. The men fall to 4-6 on the season while the No. 7 Big Red improve to 5-3 on the season. The women's record slides to 5-7 on the season while the No. 6 Big Red move to 7-1.
The men got wins from Luke Willemse and Michael Thompson in spots two and three of the Dragon ladder. Willemse swept Sebastian Obieta-Chichizola in three games. Thompson played a marathon of a five-game match with Harry Freeman. Three of the five games went past regulation. Thompson won the first game, 14-12, lost the second game 15-13 and then won the decisive game five, 13-11, by saving four match points. The win for Thompson was his first in the number three spot this season.
Spots six through nine in the Dragon lineup were all swept 3-0 by their Big Red opponents. Joey Gingold and Sebastian Dangond lost three close games in their matches. Atticus Kelly lost the first two games of his match, including a 12-10 loss in game 2, then rallied back to win game three but dropped game four to fall in four.
Hayley Hughes got a win for the Dragons at the top of the ladder over Rachel Scherman, 3-2. Hughes came back from two games down to win the last three, including 12-10 in game five. The freshman now has six wins from the top of the Dragon ladder. Mary Fung-A-Fat got the other Dragon win on the afternoon, which was also in five games. Fung-A-Fat opened up a 2-0 lead but then saw Emma Uible win close games in games three and four. The junior then held on for an 11-9 win in game five.
Elisa Money dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Margaux Losty in the number three spot. Money won games one and two but dropped three striaght including a close 13-11 loss in game five. Laura Rahauser played three tough games but fell 3-0 to Rachel Au. The same goes for Abigail Kaplan with her match versus Charlotte Knaggs. Kaplan lost by a combined nine points.
Both the men and women return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. versus the Rochester Yellowjackets.
