PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel squash teams fell to the No. 10/8 Dartmouth Big Green on Friday afternoon at the Kline and Specter Squash Center. Both the men's and women's fall to 0-4 on the season.
The women's team got wins from spots one, two, three and five in their lineup but could not get wins from the five places and dropped a 5-4 decision to the Big Green. The men got wins from their top two players but were unable to get any more from the rest of the line up to fall 7-2.
Ryan Morgan was the lone Dragon to earn a win in the opening four matches. Morgan won games two through four to comeback on Tori Dewey and win 3-1. The freshman surrended just 16 points in the final three games. Kaitlyn Money and Abigail Kaplan dropped four game matches after taking the opening game.
Hayley Hughes made her season debut count with a 3-0 sweep of Jacqueline Barnes in the number one spot. Hughes was pushed in the third set, beating Barnes 14-12 and staving off her big to extend the match to a fourth game. Mary Fung-A-Fat came back from a 0-1 hole to win her match versus Sarah Caughey. Elisa Money won in four games for her first win of the season.
Atticus Kelly got the Dragons off to a good start with a 3-0 sweep of Xander Greer in the number 2 spot in the opening four matches. Kelly evens his record at 2-2 on the season. The three remaining matches of the opening round all went to Dartmouth with the Dragons only winning one game in those three - Cillian Dunne versus Brian Giegerson.
In the second half of matches Luke Willemse came back from a 2-1 deficit, which included a tough 10-12 loss in game two, to win 3-2 versus Nick Harrington. The win moves Willemse's record to 2-2 on the season. Michael Thompson was 2-0 in his match with Alvin Heumann but dropped the last three games to fall 3-2. Dartmouth swept the two remaining matches to earn the overall win.
The women return to action on Tuesday when they welcome Trinity to the Kline and Specter Squash Center. The men, along with the women, return to action next weekend for the Pioneer Valley Invitational.
