PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's soccer team fell to William & Mary on Friday evening, 2-0. The Dragons were able to hold the Tribe scoreless through the first half, but in the second half William & Mary's offense prevailed.
William & Mary first got on the board in the 55th minute when a scramble in the box resulted in the Tribe taking a 1-0 lead. Senior keeper Kelsie Fye knocked down a Tribe shot, but the rebound deflected off of Kylie Strong towards the net. As the Drexel defense tried to clear the ball out of the box, the ball was kicked into the net for an own goal.
The Tribe maintained a 1-0 advantage despite a few efforts from the Drexel offense. William & Mary would eventually cement its victory as Sami Grasso sent a ball into the upper left corner for an unassisted goal in the 80th minute. The Dragons were unable to overcome the deficit the Tribe had created in the remaining time.
The loss moves the Dragons to 7-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play, while William & Mary improves to 10-3-1, 4-1 CAA.
The Dragons return to action on Sunday as they host Elon at Vidas Field for Senior Day starting at noon.
