BOSTON - The Drexel women's soccer team picked up a 3-1 victory over Northeastern on Friday evening to kick off their last weekend of competition this regular season. Imani Walker, Wilhelmina Hauch-Fausboll and Vanessa Kara each scored a goal apiece in the winning effort.
Northeastern jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute as the Huskies' Breeana Koemans scored her fifth goal of the season off a rebound from eight yards out. The Huskies would only hold this lead into the 37th minute when Walker found a ball from Kara and sunk it into the net for her third goal of the year.
With the score even at 1-1 and halftime approaching, Hauch-Fausboll gave Drexel the advantage as she connected with the ball in heavy traffic off a corner kick and sent it past Northeastern's keeper. The Dragons would take this 2-1 lead into halftime.
In the 67th minute, Kara solidified a Drexel victory with her 11th goal of the season. The goal gives the rookie sole possession of the program record for both goals and points (25) recorded in a single season. In the remaining time, the Huskies were unable to overcome the deficit the Dragons had created.
Drexel keeper Kelsie Fye recorded seven saves in the victory, while the Huskies' Nathalie Nidetch tallied three.
With the win, the Dragons improve to 9-8 overall and 3-5 in conference action with one game to play. The loss moves Northeastern to 11-6-1, 4-3-1 CAA.
The Dragons will visit Hofstra for the final game of the regular season on Sunday. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
