HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Drexel women's soccer team fell to the league-leading Hofstra Pride by a 1-0 deficit on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons finish the 2015 season at 9-9 overall and with a 3-6 record in conference play.
Hofstra got on the board with what ultimately become the game-winner in the 44th minute as Emily Hulbert scored her first goal of the season for the Pride. Kristin Desmond and Jill Mulholland were both credited with assists as a cross in from the right was headed across the center to Hulbert, who headed the ball into the net.
The Dragons were able to get off seven shots in the second half, but to no avail. Drexel would not be able to overcome the deficit that the Pride had created. With its victory, Hofstra earned the title of CAA regular season champions as it solidified a first place finish in league play.
Hofstra outshot the Dragons, 16-9 on the contest. Kelsie Fye tallied two saves in the losing effort, while the Pride's Friederike Mehring recorded one.
The loss eliminiates the Dragons' chances of advancing to the playoffs. Delaware, who Drexel was competing neck-to-neck with for the No. 6 seed going into competition on Sunday, earned a 1-0 victory over Northeastern to edge the Dragons out of the postseason.
