Crew Takes 3 Top-3 Finishes at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel Crew returned to the Schuylkill River on Saturday at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. The Dragons tallied three top-three finishes and seven top-10s.

The Dragons raced three men's second varsity eights, recording one of their top-three finishes. The A clocked the third best time of the day with a 13:15.53 in the Lois Krall boat. Penn won the event with the only sub-13-minute time. The B in the Joseph Greipp boat finished sixth with a 13:36.04 and the C in the Lois Krall finished 16th with a 14:19.46.

The Dragons recorded two top-threes in varsity eight action. The men's varsity eight A finished third with a 12:59.07 in the Sandra Lee Sheller II boat. Penn won the race. The B raced to a 14:04.06 in the Annette Pennoni boat.

The women clocked a third-place time in the Marlene Buckley II boat with a 14:56.14. Fordham took home the victory in the race.

The fours kicked off competition in the morning. Drexel's women's freshmen four raced out to a sixth-place finish in the Dawn Byers boat. The Dragons crossed the finish line at 17:19.150. Penn won the race with a 16:18.950, the only boat to clock a time under 17:00.

The women took home a top-10 finish as its second varsity eight A took fifth in the Maria Papadakis boat with a 15:28.55. The B finished closely behind with a seventh-place finish with a 15:44.78 in the Marlene Buckley boat.

The women's varsity four followed the freshmen four in the morning also in the Dawn Byers, finishing in 29th with a time of 17:48.930. Penn won the race with a 15:24.900.

The Dragons had won the overall team title each year since 2010. They had also won the men's title in 2010, 2011 and 2013 as well as the women's title in 2011 and 2013.

The Dragons finish out their fall season next Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Princeton Chase.
