Field Hockey Earns Senior Day Win over Towson, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel field hockey team (8-10, 4-2 CAA) won its final regular season game against the Towson Tigers (2-16, 0-6 CAA) on senior day by a final score of 1-0 from Buckley Field. The Dragons will now prepare for the CAA Championships next weekend, hosted by James Madison University.
The Dragons could not get its offense going in the first half of the game, taking seven shots in the opening 35 minutes compared to 17 in the second half. Drexel had four shots on goal in the first but did not compare away with a goal as the game was scoreless at half.
With 18:10 remaining in the contest, sophomore Alison McCardell put a rebound back in the cage for the first goal of the contest to get the Dragons on the board. The goal ended up being the deciding factor as Drexel held onto the 1-0 margain for the remainder of the Sunday afternoon affair. The goal was McCardell's third of the year.
Towson started to get a few good scoring opportunities with under four minutes to play. The Tigers were given a peanlty stroke with 3:19 to play. Towson's Taylor Kvilhaug lined up for the shot, which she placed on the left side of the cage. Drexel goalkeeper Ainsle Rhoads (W, 4-7) made a huge save to keep the lead for the Dragons, diving to her left side to thwart the close-range opportunity.
Rhoads won two games in the final weekend of the regular season, the first against No. 14 Delware on Friday to help secure the Dragons' CAA Championship berth and then again on Sunday in the 1-0 victory over Towson where she made five saves..
Drexel will now head to the CAA Championships, hosted by James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va., with the squad's next game on Friday, Nov. 6 in a semifinal matchup. The final seeding will be determined once all league games conclude on Sunday.
