Wrestling Falls to Maryland, 24-10

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Drexel wrestling team fell to Maryland on Saturday night in College Park, 24-10. Matthew Cimato, Zack Fuentes, and Joey Goodhart each picked up wins in the Dragons' losing effort.
The dual began with the 174-pound match, where Maryland's Josh Snook edged Nick Elmer by a 5-4 decision. Stephen Loiseau took Jaron Smith to two overtime periods at 184, but ultimately lost by fall to give the Terps a 9-0 advantage. A Maryland win at 197 increased its lead to 12-0, but then Goodhart got the Dragons on the board in the heavyweight match with a 5-3 win over Youssif Hemida. Fuentes followed with a 5-4 decision at 125 to cut the Terps' lead to 12-6.
Maryland's No. 18 Tyler Goodwin took the 133-pound match from David Pearce with a 7-2 decision and then Alfred Bannister edged Kevin Devoy Jr. at 141, 8-7 to make it an 18-6 Drexel deficit. At 149, No. 10 Cimato brought the Dragons within eight points with two matches to go after he earned a major decision over the Terps' Wade Hodges. However, Maryland earned decisions at both 157 and 165 to secure a 24-10 victory.
With the loss, the Dragons move to 3-5 in dual competition while Maryland improves to 3-4. This wraps up competition for Drexel for the 2015 calendar year. The Dragons will ring in the new year at the Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1 and 2 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
