PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's squash turns their attention to postseason play with the Kurtz Cup this weekend in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Last year the Dragons went 1-2 at the Kurtz Cup. Drexel lost to Bates (7-2) in the first round and then beat Hamilton (6-3) before falling to Williams (6-3) in the Consolation Bracket final.
The Kurtz Cup features teams ranked 9-16 in the CSA College Squash Rankings. Drexel is ranked 15th and will take on No. 10 Stanford on Friday at 2:15 p.m. If the Dragons win on Friday they will play either No. 11 Brown or No. 14 Franklin and Marshall on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. and if Drexel losses then they will plat Saturday at 9 a.m. versus the loser of Brown and Franklin and Marshall. The final will be played on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
The top half of the bracket is No. 9 Dartmouth versus No. 16 Bates and No. 12 Williams versus No. 13 Middlebury. Drexel is just 2-12 versus the rest of the teams in the Kurtz Cup all-time.
No. 10 Stanford comes in with a record of 4-9 on the season. However, eight of those nine loses have against teams ranked No. 1 through 8 in the current CSA Rankings. The Cardinal is just 1-7 in their last eight matches. This will be the first meeting between the Cardinal and the Dragons in women's squash.
For the first time in program history the Dragons had five players win at least 10 matches on the season. Kaitlyn Money won 12, Hayley Hughes won 11 and Ryan Morgan, Laura Rahauser and Mary Fung-A-Fat won 10.
