PHILADELPHIA - Head Coach Doug Hess and the Drexel men's soccer program have announced the addition of Sean Lawlor to the Dragons' coaching staff for the upcoming season. Lawlor, a graduate of Le Moyne College, brings four years of coaching experience to the Dragons after completing his career as a defender with the Dolphins in 2010.
"We are thrilled to announce Sean's appointment as part of the men's soccer staff here at Drexel," Hess remarked. "He brings some valuable experiences along with him from both Syracuse University and Le Moyne College, and we are confident that he will add value to our staff."
Lawlor spent the last two seasons at Syracuse, where he helped guide the Orange to 26 victories during that time. That includes a 16-4-1 season in 2014 which saw Syracuse earn a No. 1 ranking for two weeks during the regular season. The Orange finished the year by earning a No. 9 seed into the NCAA Tournament, where they advanced to the third round. Three times during Lawlor's tenure, Syracuse defeated ranked teams, including a 1-0 defeat of No. 2 Virginia last fall.
Lawlor's coaching career began at his alma mater, where he spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2011, he helped guide Le Moyne to an appearance in the Northeast-10 Championship semifinals.
From 2007-10, Lawlor started 70 matches for the Dolphins. As a junior in 2009, he helped them to an 18-3-3 record, the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament title and an appearance in the Division II NCAA semifinals. While there, Lawlor was named an NSCAA All-American student-athlete.
"I am delighted to become a Dragon and be a part of the Drexel University men's soccer program and athletic department," Lawlor said. "I am excited to work with Coach Hess and to begin working with the team he has assembled here through the spring."
Lawlor holds a bachelor's degree in business and a master's degree in education, both from Le Moyne.
