FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Drexel women's soccer team picked up its first road win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Fairfield on Friday evening. Sophomore Madison Dunn scored two of the Dragons' three goals, while freshman Shaelyn McCarty recorded the other.
McCarty got Drexel on the board first in the 14th minute as she sent a long kick from well outside the box into the net for her first career goal as a Dragon. Less than six minutes later, Dunn added her first of the season to extend Drexel's lead to 2-0. The Dragons would take this lead into halftime.
The third goal of the night would come 15 minutes into the second half as a corner kick from Jacki Sieder found Dunn who headed it past Fairfield's keeper. While the Stags would get on the board in the 71st minute with as Karolyn Collins set up Sara Plowman for a goal, it was not enough for Fairfield to overcome the deficit the Dragons had created.
Fairfield totaled 16 shots to Drexel's 15. Eve Badana, who played just under 70 minutes in the victory, recorded two saves while Kelsie Fye added one in the remainder of the game. Fairfield's Jenna Pike tallied four stops in the losing effort.
With the win, the Dragons improve to 2-1, while the Stags move to 1-2 on the season. Drexel returns to action on Sunday when it will take on Stony Brook in its second game of the Fairfield Women's Soccer Invitational. The game is set to begin at 11 a.m.
