Men's Soccer Tripped Up By Hofstra, 5-1

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team looked to have a shot for its first win over a ranked team in over three years on Wednesday night, but a goal late in the first half brought No. 23 Hofstra back even with the Dragons, and the Pride pulled away after halftime to defeat the Dragons, 5-1.
Sophomore midfielder Erik Alexandersson scored his first goal of the season in the 33rd minute to put the Dragons (2-7-1, 1-2-0) on top, but Hofstra (7-2-0, 2-0-0) turned up the pressure after that and proved too relentless for Drexel to contain. Five different members of the Pride scored on the evening, including an Andreas Iosifides score with just 25 seconds remaining before halftime that left Drexel deflated heading into intermission.
Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Jacob Jordan faced constant pressure from the Pride and was up to the task in the first half. Jordan finished with a career-best 13 saves, six of which came in the first half. His scoreless streak reached just over 300 minutes before the Iosifides goal ended it. Hofstra took the lead in the 57th minute when Daniel Massey connected from 15 yards out.
Drexel had opportunities, particularly early in the proceedings. Freshman forward Francisco Rodrigues da Palma put on a one-man flurry beginning in the 22 nd minute. Off a restart, he bent his shot and nearly gave the Dragons the lead with a spectacular goal, but the ball ricocheted off the post and out of play. That didn't stop him over the next two minutes. His next shot nearly got around Hofstra keeper Patric Pray, but Pray dove on it just in time as da Palma's shot pounded straight into Pray's stomach. Da Palma would add one more strike off a loose ball at the top of the box which Pray collected for the save.
The second half, however, turned out to be all Hofstra. The Pride got off 11 shots on goal, connecting on four of them. Meshack Eshun Addy, Sean Nealis and Joseph Holland added goals after Massey's game-winner. Drexel was able to get off just six shots after halftime, none of which tested Pray.
Drexel will brush off Wednesday's loss and get back to work on Saturday. The Dragons host the College of Charleston at 4:00 p.m., preceded by the team's annual Alumni Game.
