No. 9 Men’s Squash Earns Wins Over No. 12 Cornell, No. 19 Wesleyan

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 9 Drexel men's squash team (9-4) swept its two matches today as the Dragons defeated the No. 12 Cornell Big Red (3-5) by a final of 6-3 in a neutral site matchup in New Haven, Conn. before traveling to defeat the No. 19 Wesleyan in Middletown, Conn., 9-0.
Afternoon Match: Dragons Sweep No. 23 Wesleyan
The Dragons swept all nine matches on Saturday afternoon. The ladder shifted a little bit from the morning match against Cornell.
Sophomore Atticus Kelly won in five games, 11-7, 9-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6, against Guy Davidson for his second win on the day from the No. 1 spot.
Freshman Bransten Ming recovered from his loss in the morning to defeat Wesleyan's Raheen Loga, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5.
Fellow freshman Omar El Atmas swept his No. 3 spot match against Chris Hart, 11-5, 11-9, 11-7.
The final six matches from positions 4 through 9 came in sweeping fashions as well.

Morning Match: Drexel Grabs 6-3 Decision Over No. 12 Cornell
Sophomore Atticus Kelly grabbed a four-game win in the No. 1 spot for the Dragons as he defeated Harry Freeman, 11-1, 11-9, 5-11, 12-10.
Freshman Bransten Ming suffered a loss in the No. 2 position, but Drexel also won its No. 3 through 6 position matches on Saturday morning to help lead to the squad's eighth victory.
Freshman Omar El Atmas earned a No. 3 position victory over Gustav Runersjo, 12-10, 4-11, 11-4, 11-8 as he seized his 10th win of his young Drexel career.
Senior Ibrahim Bakir turned in a 7-11, 11-7, 12-14, 14-12, 11-7 decision over Andy Muran of the Big Red from the No. 4 position. Bakir moved to 8-3 on the year with the win.
In the No. 5 spot, junior Michael Thompson also earned his 10th win on the campaign in the Dragons' lone sweep in the victory as he defeated Jordan Brail, 12-10, 11-9, 11-9.
Sophomore Luke Willemse ended his three-loss match streak with a hard-fought, four-game win against Kevin Flannery from the No. 6 spot.
Senior Joey Gingold, like Bakir, came out on top of a five-game match. The Bala Cynwyd local defeated Augie Jones, 12-10, 7-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-8.
Following Saturday's matches, the Drexel men will host No. 13 George Washington on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. from the Kline & Specter Center in the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
