No. 9 Men’s Squash Triumphs Over No. 10 GW, 8-1

PHILADELPHIA - The No. 9 Drexel men's squash team (10-4) earned an 8-1 victory over the No. 10 George Washington Colonials (11-5) on Saturday evening from the Kline & Specter Squash Center. The Dragons reached 10 wins for the fourth-straight season, needing only 14 matches to do so.
The Drexel victory was highlighted by junior Nat Fry who trailed two games to none before coming back to win three straight on his way to defeating Reid Breck in the No. 7 position. Fry dropped the first two, 11-5, 11-9, before grabbing the third and fourth, 11-8, 11-8. As the match went on, Fry looked stronger as he convincingly took the fifth, 11-2.
Sophomore Atticus Kelly earned his 10th win on the year as he downed GW's Moudy Abdel-Maksoud from the No. 1 spot. It came has his third-straight victory, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 12-10. Kelly is now 3-1 from the No. 1 position, where he has played in the last four matches.
Freshman Bransten Ming earned his 11th individual victory from the No. 2 position as he defeated the Colonials' Oisheen Logan, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6, 11-7.
Drexel freshman Omar El Atmas and junior Michael Thompson both earned their team-leading 12th victories on the campaign. El Atmas played from the No. 3 and beat Andres de Frutos in a sweep, 11-9, 11-4, 11-3, as did Thompson only from the No. 6 against Billy Berner, 11-8, 11-6, 12-10.
Senior Ibrahim Bakir grabbed his 10th victory as well, as he and Kelly became the third and fourth Dragons to reach double-digit wins on the season.
Sophomore Luke Willemse played from the No. 5 spot for Drexel for the second time this year as he moved to 1-1 from that position with a 11-4, 11-5, 8-11, 11-3 win against Juan Pable Mejia.
From the No. 9 spot, senior Joey Gingold defeated Josh Marks in straight games, 11-2, 11-3, 11-8, for this sixth sweep of the season.
Next, the Dragons will head to Carlisle, Pa. for a makeup match against Dickinson on Monday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Drexel will then close out its regular-season schedule on Saturday, Feb. 13 against Columbia at the Kline & Specter Squash Center for senior day.
