
Field Hockey Falls to No. 9 Delaware, Set for Rematch at CAA Championship

NEWARK, Del. – The Drexel field hockey team (8-10, 3-3 CAA) dropped its regular-season finale to the No. 9 Delaware Blue Hens (17-2, 6-0 CAA) on Sunday afternoon from Newark, Del.
The two teams are now set for a rematch in the CAA Championship on Friday as Drexel grabbed the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament while Delaware will host as the No. 1 seed.
The Blue Hens scored two goals in the first half to gain control over the contest on Sunday. Meghan Winesett scored the first goal in the 25th minute before Greta Nauck added another in the 29th minute as Delaware held a 2-0 lead at the half.
Nauck scored her second goal of the affair, coming as her 24th on the season, in the 60th minute for the Blue Hens, 3-0.
Less than a minute later, Drexel redshirt junior Alison McCardell scored on a rebound for the lone Dragon goal to trim the deficit back down to two, 3-1.
But second after the Drexel score in the 61st minute (60:44), Delaware recorded a fourth goal off the stick from Ally Pollak, who was assisted by Taylor Lister, from three yards out in the 61st minute as well (60:52) as the Blue Hens would win by the 4-1 final.
The Blue Hens led offensively in the game in terms of shots, 22-2, shots on goal, 16-2, and penalty corners, 9-0.
Drexel sophomore goalkeeper Erin Gilchrist (L, 8-10) tallied 12 saves in the cage for her fourth double-digit save performance in 2016.
Drexel and No. 9 Delaware are set for a rematch next weekend in Newark, Del. as the Blue Hens host the CAA Championship on Friday, Nov. 4 and Sunday, Nov. 6. In the semifinal matchup on Friday at 3 p.m., Drexel plays as the No. 4 seed while Delaware grabs the top seed.
