NEW YORK – The No. 9 Drexel men's squash team (2-1) dropped its first match of the season on Saturday against No. 7 Columbia by a final of 9-0 from SL Green StreetSquash in New York City.
Senior Michael Thompson took his match to five games but fell to Columbia's Rishi Tandon from the No. 3 spot, 9-11, 11-3, 6-11, 11-8, 11-4.
Sophomore Bransten Ming and junior Luke Willemse were the only other Dragons to take their matches beyond three games as both lost in four.
Although they came as exhibition matches from the No. 10 and 11 positions, sophomores Royston Raymond and Ryan Leslie earned wins on Saturday. Raymond defeated Sambhav Anand from the No. 10 spot, 11-8, 11-6, 6-11, 7-11, 12-10. Leslie also grabbed a five-game victory over Richard Soper after trailing in the match 2-1 as he won a 3-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6 final.
No. 9 Drexel continue its weekend road trip in Hartford, Conn. tomorrow, Sunday, November 20 with No. 1 Trinity at 10 a.m. followed by No. 24 Bowdoin at noon.
