PHILADELPHIA - Vanessa Kara of the Drexel women's soccer team was awarded Second Team NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced this week. Kara, who was named to First Team All-Conference for her performance this season, has now been recognized by the NSCAA two years in a row after being named to Third Team All-Region as a rookie last season. She is one of eight players from the Colonial Athletic Association who earned spots on the NSCAA's Mid-Atlantic All-Region teams this year.
Kara led the squad in points with 17 this season and was second in goals with six on the year. The sophomore also led the team in assists with five and had two game-winning goals on the season. Kara is now tied for third all-time in career points, fourth in career goals, and tied for eighth in career assists in Drexel program history. The 2015 CAA Rookie of the Year also holds the program records for both goals and points in a single season with 11 goals and 25 points recorded as a freshman.
Kara and the Dragons concluded the 2016 season at 9-7-4 overall and finished the regular season tied for second in conference with a 4-2-3 record. The Dragons advanced to the CAA playoffs for the third time in program history and picked up their first-ever postseason win with a victory over James Madison in the semifinals. The squad advanced to its first-ever appearance in the conference title game, where they fell to Northeastern, 3-0.
