Newark, Del. - Delaware rallied from an 11-point first half deficit to defeat Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association game, 69-60. Sammy Mojica scored 16 to lead Drexel and had a career-high five three-pointers. The loss snapped a 15-game Blue Hen losing streak and extended Drexel's skid to nine games. Each team is now 1-12 in league play.
The Dragons (3-21) got off to a strong start from the floor, making five of their first seven. Included in that were three Sammy Mojica three-pointers. Drexel grabbed the early lead and extended it to as many as 11 when Rashann London knocked down a three that made it 24-13. However, the Hens (6-18) closed the half with an 11-0 run and the game was tied at the half, 24-24. Drexel was held scoreless for the last 4:48 of the half.
The Dragons, who trailed by eight points midway through the second half, battled back and tied the game at 51 with 8:10 to play when Rodney Williams scored on a lay-in. Delaware answered with a 5-0 run as Kory Holden hit a jump shot and Cazmon Hayes drained a three-pointer. The lead was at seven with 5:11 to play when Drexel answered with five straight points of its own. Williams had the first bucket and Rashann London hit a three-pointer to give the Dragons life with 4:06 to go. After a turnover, Drexel had two shots to tie but both missed the mark. The Dragons were held without a field goal the final four minutes and missed their last nine field goals.
Mojica led four Dragons in double figures with 16 points. He was 5-for-11 from deep. London had one of his best games in recent memory with 12 points. He had a pair of three-pointers and did not commit a turnover in 35 minutes. The Dragons committed just five turnovers, but shot 37 percent from the floor. In addition, Drexel went to the line just 12 times, while the Blue Hens finished the game 26-for-33 from the line.
Marvin King-Davis scored 23 points to lead all players. He also had nine rebounds. Hayes scored 13 points, while Holden added 12 points. The Blue Hens shot 61 percent in the second half and made half of their shots in the game.
The Dragons will play their final game of a three-game road swing on Saturday night when they face Northeastern. That game will begin at 1 p.m. and will be shown on Comcast New England.
