BOULDER, Colo. – The Drexel women's soccer team fell to Colorado by a 5-0 deficit on Sunday afternoon. The loss concludes Drexel's two-game road trip to Colorado this Labor Day weekend.
The Buffaloes got on the board first in the 10th minute as Danica Evans found Taylor Kornieck just outside the box, who sent the ball into the top right corner of the goal to give the Buffaloes an early 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later, keeper Christiana Ogunsami dove to save another shot from Kornieck but it found the post and Sarah Kinzner was able to quickly find the rebound near the goal line and put it back into the bottom right of the net. Then in the 28th minute, Camilla Shymka dribbled down the backline and then passed it over to Evans at the top of the box who put it past Ogunsami into the lower right corner for Colorado's third goal of the game.
The Buffaloes took a 3-0 advantage into halftime, and while the Drexel defense limited any further damage for a good portion of the second half, Colorado got another chance to score in the 71st minute. It was then that Kornieck was awarded a penalty kick and was able to put it past freshman goalkeeper Libby Baeza, who had entered the game about ten minutes beforehand, to extend the Buffaloes' lead to 4-0.
Colorado's final goal of the contest came in the 85th minute, when Stephanie Zuniga found a ball from Mikaela Kraus and put it into the net from the right side in the box. The Buffaloes would go on to secure a 5-0 victory as time expired in regulation.
The Buffaloes outshot the Dragons, 26-7. Ogunsami played 61 minutes in goal for the Dragons and recorded nine saves in the losing effort. Freshman keeper Baeza made her first appearance in goal for Drexel and finished out the remainder of the game with just under 29 minutes played. Colorado's Jalen Tompkins recorded one save in the Buffaloes' win.
With the loss the Dragons move to 3-3 on the season, while the Buffaloes improve to a 3-3 record of their own.
Next up, Drexel will return home on Thursday, Sept. 8 as they host Fairfield at Vidas Field. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
