Boston, Mass. –T.J. Williams scored 30 points and Northeastern made 12 three-pointers in a 92-75 win over Drexel at Matthews Arena. The Huskies (12-5, 5-0 CAA) stayed undefeated in league play and won their eighth straight game. Sammy Mojica scored a season-high 18 points in his return to Boston for the Dragons (6-11, 0-4).
Drexel led by as many six early in the first half before the Huskies went on a run and took the lead. The Dragons went more than six minutes without a field goal and Northeastern scored 16 straight points to take the lead. The Dragons answered that run with seven straight points of their own to cut the lead to three, but NU's Shawn Occeus drained a three-pointer from the left wing in the closing second as the Huskies went to intermission with a 38-32 lead. Maxime Boursiquot had a big first half for the hosts with 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.
After Northeastern opened the second half with a pair of three-pointers to take a 10-point lead, the Dragons quickly cut it to a three-point contest with 15 minutes to play. Kurk Lee and Rodney Williams scored in the lane on back-to-back possessions to make it 44-41. However, that was as close as the Dragons could get. In what seemed like a game of runs, Northeastern went on a 14-2 spurt to extend its lead to 70-54.
The Dragons shot the ball well (48 percent) and made nine three-pointers. However, the defense could not contain the Huskies on a consistent basis. Northeastern shot 61 percent in the game and was 12-for-25 from behind the arc. Mojica had a pair of three-pointers and six rebounds to go along with his 18 points. He was one of five Dragons to finish with at least 11 points. Rodney Williams and Miles Overton each added 14. Williams was 6-for-6 from the line, while Overton knocked down three three-pointers. Lee and Kari Jonsson each contributed 11 points. Lee had five assists and five steals while committing just one turnover in 28 minutes.
T.J. Williams, the top scorer in the CAA, was 10-for-11 from the line. He also had eight rebounds and seven assists. Occeus was a perfect 4-for-4 from deep, while Devon Begley had four treys to go along with 16 points and a game-high nine assists. Bouorsiquot had a huge game off the bench. The freshman made all seven of his shots and finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Drexel will return home to face arch-rival Delaware on Saturday. The Dragons and Blue Hens will tip it off at 4 p.m. from the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
