No. 13 Women’s Squash Narrowly Defeated by No. 9 Dartmouth on Sunday, 5-4

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 13 Drexel women's squash team (4-10) were narrowly defeated by the No. 9 Dartmouth Big Green (3-4) by a final of 5-4 from the Kline & Specter Squash Center in a tight, Sunday morning match.

Junior Hayley Hughes and senior Mary Fung-A-Fat turned in the first two wins for the Dragons on Sunday as the match was knotted at 2-all. Hughes earned a victory from the No. 2 spot over Dartmouth's Annie Blasberg, 11-5, 11-4, 11-3, while Fung-A-Fat defeated Rebecca Brownell of the Big Green, 11-8, 11-9, 11-3.

After a loss in the No. 9 spot for Drexel to give Dartmouth the 3-2 lead, freshman Anna Hughes turned in a No. 3 position win over Dartmouth's Julia Potter, 11-6, 11-7, 8-11, 11-2, to even it back up at 3-all.

But the Big Green quickly countered with a No. 7 spot win to take a 4-3 advantage.

Sophomore Fiona Power evened it back up with a win from the No. 5 position, 11-5, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7. In the final match standing, junior Ryan Morgan was trailing 2-1 by the time Power's match finished up. Morgan won the first game but would drop the next three as Drexel lost the match.

With no matches scheduled for the first week of February, the Dragons will look towards facing George Washington in Washington, D.C. on Friday, Feb. 10 before playing their final home match of the year on Senior Day against Dickinson on Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Kline & Specter Squash Center.
