PHILADELPHIA - A goal on a penalty kick with just under two minutes to play from junior Vanessa Kara helped the Drexel women's soccer team defeat Towson, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. The win marked the fifth shutout of the season for the Drexel defense.
Madison Dunn was fouled in the box in the 89th minute of a game that previously looked like it could be headed for overtime. Given this strong opportunity, Kara went up for the penalty kick and put it into the left side of the net to give the Dragons the advantage with less than two minutes to play. The Tigers were unable to recover and Drexel would go on to pick up its seventh victory of the year.
The Dragons outshot the Tigers, 15-7 on the outing. Keeper Christiana Ogunsami recorded four saves on the day, while Towson's Taylor Sebolao tallied 10.
With the win Drexel improves to 7-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 against conference opponents. The loss moves Towson to 4-7-2, 1-2-0 CAA.
The Dragons will travel to face Delaware on Thursday, Oct. 5 in a game that is slated to begin at 7 p.m. Drexel will then head further south to take on UNCW in Wilmington, N.C. on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
