PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's tennis team sent a pair to the Round of 16 at the ITA Regional tournament held at the University of Pennsylvania, as Ghita Benhadi and Kendra Bunch defeated two pairs of players on Thursday to move on. They were ultimately knocked out in the third round, concluding the Dragons' stay at the event.
Benhadi and Bunch started their day by taking out Thandy Kangwa and Katie Kim of Seton Hall, 8-4. They then defeated Gabriella Bowe and Kahlei Reisenger of St. Bonaventure to advance into the Round of 16. The Drexel pair fell to Laura Moreno and Ana Yrazusta of UMass on Saturday, 8-7 (6).
In singles play, the Dragons were less successful as all of the participating singles players were defeated in the first round. Also knocked out was the doubles pair of Salma Ziouti and Clary Rodriguez-Cruz in the first round.
The Dragons will now enjoy a three-month layoff before resuming play for the spring schedule starting in January. The Dragons' first spring event will come at the VCU Invitational in Richmond on Jan. 19-20.
