HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Drexel women's soccer team fell to third-seeded Northeastern in the CAA Semifinals on Friday evening. In a rematch of both the 2016 CAA title game and a 1-1 draw earlier this season, the Huskies got out to an early 2-0 lead and were able to hold on to advance to the CAA Championship game.
Northeastern's Lizzie George was first to score as she recorded a goal off a pass from Carly Wilhelm in the 25th minute. Just over five minutes later, Northeastern extended its advantage as Hannah Rosenblatt came off the bench and put one away as Taylor Caparo crossed it in to her from the left endline. The goal, which marked Rosenblatt's eighth of the year, gave the Huskies an early 2-0 lead.
The Dragons were unable to recover from the early deficit despite a few strong attempts down the stretch. Senior Imani Walker got a strong shot off from close range in the 74th minute, but Northeastern keeper Nathalie Nidetch was able to corral it to prevent a Drexel goal. Then with just under 10 minutes to play, senior Wilhelmina Hauch-Fausbøll fired a shot from about 25 yards out that went just high of the crossbar. Drexel would be unable to get on the board as time wound down and went on to end its 2017 campaign with a 2-0 loss to the Huskies.
The Huskies outshot the Dragons, 17-12 on the outing. Senior goalkeeper Christiana Ogunsami recorded two saves on the night, while Northeastern's Nidetch tallied six.
Drexel concludes the 2017 season with an 11-7-1 overall record and a 6-2-1 mark against conference opponents in the regular season.
Northeastern improves to 13-5-3 overall and moves on to face the winner of No. 1 Hofstra vs. No. 4 William & Mary that was schedule to take place following the matchup between the Dragons and Huskies on Friday night.
