No. 14 Women’s Squash Edges Out No. 11 Williams in Kurtz Cup Quarterfinals

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 14 Drexel women's squash team (7-10) used wins from the top-five positions to edge out the No. 11 Williams College Ephs from Princeton, N.J. in the first round of the B Division Kurtz Cup at team nationals with a 5-4 final.

Friday night's action came down to the No. 1 match as it was 4-all when Drexel's Hayley Hughes and Williams' Nicole Friedman were playing. Hughes swept the Eph by a 13-11, 11-3, 11-6 final to secure the victory for the Dragons.

Fellow junior Ryan Morgan played from the No. 2 spot and defeated Ester Baek in a similar fashion, 11-8, 11-3, 11-7.

Freshman Anna Hughes and senior Mary Fung-A-Fat both needed four games to come away with their No. 3 and No. 4 position individual victories. Hughes took down Hayley Parsons, 11-6, 11-7, 7-11, 11-4, while Fung-A-Fat took care of Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 11-4.

Sophomore Fiona Power also defeated Alyssa Richie in three games, 11-4, 11-5, 11-4.

The Dragons move onto the Kurtz Cup semifinals with a matchup against No. 10 Brown tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. on Princeton's 5, 6 and 7.
