No. 14 Women’s Squash Defeats No. 10 Brown to Advance to Kurtz Cup Finals on Sunday

PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second-straight night, the No. 14 Drexel women's squash team (8-10) earned a victory after winning the top-five matches in the ladder, this time against No. 10 Brown in the Kurtz Cup semifinals. The win advanced the Dragons to Sunday's Kurtz Cup finals against No. 9 Dartmouth.
It marks the second time in two years that the Dragons will play for the Kurtz Cup after advancing to the finals in 2016.
Junior Ryan Morgan and freshman Anna Hughes both swept their Brown Bear counterparts on Saturday from the No. 2 and 3 positions. Ryan defeated Hannah Seckendorf, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5, while Hughes took down Hannah Hay-Smith, 11-4, 11-6, 11-7.
Junior Hayley Hughes and senior Mary Fung-A-Fat both won their matches in four games from the No. 1 and 4 spots for the Dragons. Hughes jumped out to a 2-0 lead before sealing the victory in four, 11-5, 11-5, 7-11, 11-8. Fung-A-Fat dropped her first game but won the next three to secure the win, 2-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-6.
In the only five-game match of the evening, sophomore Fiona Power won the first, third and fifth games against Brown's Isabel Young, 11-9, 5-11, 11-3, 9-11, 11-9.
The Dragons move onto the Kurtz Cup finals with a matchup against No. 9 Dartmouth tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 26 at 12:15 p.m. on Princeton's 5, 6 and 7.
