PHILADELPHIA - A trip to the Caribbean and a pair of games against Philadelphia Big 5 schools highlight the Drexel men's basketball 2017-18 non-conference schedule. Drexel Head Coach Zach Spiker's team returns four starters and seven players who played significant minutes a year ago.
The 2017-18 season opens with a pair of home games. Bowling Green, a member of the Mid-American Conference, comes to the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Friday, Nov. 10. Three days later, the Dragons face Arcadia before heading to St. Thomas. Drexel will play in the Paradise Jam for the second time and play in an extremely deep field. The Dragons open the tournament on Nov. 17 against the Houston Cougars, a team that won 21 games last season. In the second game, Drexel will face either Liberty or Mercer. The other teams in the tournament include Colorado, Drake, Quinnipiac and Wake Forest. Each team will play three games in four days in an eight-team bracket set up.
The Dragons will visit both La Salle and Temple in December. Drexel was victorious in its last visit to both Gola Arena and to the Liacouras Center. The Dragons defeated La Salle, 66-53, in December of 2015 behind Tavon Allen's 25 points. Drexel was victorious at Temple, 69-54, back in 2006, as Kenny Tribbett had a career-high 12 points.
Drexel's other home games come against Lafayette, Rider and Quinnipiac. The Lafayette and Rider games take place the week after Thanksgiving, while Quinnipiac will be Drexel's final non-conference home game of 2017. The Dragons will go on the road to face NJIT, Robert Morris and Loyola (Md.). The Robert Morris game will be played at Consol Energy Arena in Pittsburgh, while the Loyola game in Baltimore will be the final non-conference game of the season.
