PHILADELPHIA – William & Mary scored 13 straight points midway through the first half and went on to defeat Drexel on Sunday at the Daskalakis Athletic Center, 85-63. The Tribe (11-4, 4-0 CAA) remained undefeated and alone at the top of the Colonial Athletic Association standings. The Dragons fell to 7-10 overall and 1-3 in league play. Tramaine Isabell and Alihan Demir each scored 14 points to lead Drexel.
Drexel made 10 of its first 14 shots and jumped out to an early 28-18 lead after an Isabell three-pointer with just under 10 minutes to go in the first half. However, the Tribe scored 13 straight points as part of a 21-2 run to turn the deficit into an 11-point lead. The Tribe took a 45-34 lead into the locker room. Cohn led all players with 17 of his game-high 26 points in the opening half.
The Dragons struggled to open the second half. Drexel made just one field goal in the first nine minutes as the Tribe's lead increased to 20 before Alihan Demir broke the drought. The Dragons were held without a field goal for a span of more than seven minutes and started the half just 1-for-11 from the floor.
Demir was 5-for-8 from the floor and has made 13 of this last 16 field goal attempts. The sophomore also grabbed six rebounds. Isabell had three steals to go with his 14 points. No other Dragon finished with more than seven points.
Cohn finished the game shooting 10-for-14 and missing on just one of his five long-range attempts. He also handed out six assists. Nathan Knight, one of the most improved players in the CAA, added 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Matt Millon added 13 for the Tribe who shot 50 percent from the floor in the game. The Tribe, who entered the game tops in the nation in three-point percentage at .522, went 10-for-22 (.455) from deep.
The Dragons head to the road for just one game before returning to the DAC. Drexel will face archrival Delaware on Thursday night at the Bob Carpenter Center before coming home to host Hofstra on homecoming next Saturday.
