Rowing Finishes Top 5 in Each Race Entered Saturday at Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel rowing team earned top-five finishes in all six categories it was entered Saturday at the annual Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River. The Dragons' men's varsity eight and second varsity eight A highlighted the day with second-place times. The women's second varsity eight and freshmen eight each finished third, while the women's varsity eight and men's freshmen eight took fifth.

The men's varsity eight, racing in the Lois Krall II boat, finished in 12:05.54, which was 0:01.32 behind Navy A and nearly seven seconds ahead of third-place St. Joe's A. The men's second varsity eight, racing in the Sandra Lee Sheller II boat, took second with a time of 12:27.27 as Navy A took the victory. Drexel B in the Lois Krall boat took seventh, while Drexel C in the Joseph Greipp boat finished 12th.

The women's second varsity eight A, racing in the Cara Fry boat, earned a third-place time of 14:01.96, just .66 seconds behind Temple A for second. The Dragons B in the Marlene Buckley II boat finished ninth. Also taking a third-place finish was the women's freshmen eight in the Maria Papadakis boat with a time of 14:41.17.

Drexel's women's varsity eight, racing in the Alleva XVII boat, finished fifth with a time of 13:49.30. The men's freshmen eight raced to a fifth-place finish as well with a time of 12:39.57 in the Annette Pennoni boat.

The Dragons return to fall action next weekend when they head to Boston for the Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday and Sunday.
