Dragons Finish 11th at Phoenix Invitational

Final Results
Elon. N.C. - The Drexel golf team had its best round of the tournament, but finished in 11th place overall at the Elon Phoenix Invitational. The host school won the event that was held at the Alamance Country Club. Angelo Giantsopoulos had the best round of the day for Drexel, shooting a three-under-par 68. Connor Schmidt was the Dragons top overall performer, carding a one-under-par 212 in the 54-hole event.
On Tuesday, Drexel shot 285, two shots better than each of its first two rounds of the tournament. Giantsopoulos and Schmidt each went under par on Tuesday. Freshman Ben Pochet contributed with a two-over-par 73. Jeffrey Cunningham and Alex Butler each shot 74.
Individually, Schmidt tied for 14th place with his three rounds. Schmidt went under par in two of the three rounds as he continued his outstanding fall season. Butler tied for 27th overall, three shots back of Schmidt. Cunningham finished the event at 216, while Giantsopoulos and Pochet finished at 219 and 226, respectively.
The Phoenix, who shot eight under par, won the even by five strokes over Ohio. Temple placed third, while Presbyterian and Radford tied for fourth.
The Dragons are back in action beginning next Sunday at the OBX Intercollegiate hosted by Old Dominion.
